Hits by the Hawks Defeat the University of
Delaware, 10-2; Godusky Bats 4-for-5 with
a Homer Away From the
Cycle
NEWARK,
DE (April 21, 2005)-- The University of
Delaware baseball team fell to Saint
Joseph's University, 10-2 on Thursday at
Bob Hannah Stadium as the Hawks pounded
out 17 hits and left fielder Matt Godusky
batted 4-for-5 and drove in three while on
his way to batting home run away from the
cycle.
Delaware
(15-19) splits the series with Saint
Joseph's (10-24) this year after defeating
the Hawks 5-3 at Hannah Stadium on March
30.
Kelly
Buber (Yuba City, Yuba Community-at right)
had two doubles while Brandon Menchaca
(Wilmington, DE/Concord) and Brent Rogers
(Claymont, DE/Mt. Pleasant) each drove in
run. Ryan Graham (Danville, IL/Triton)
singled to round out Delaware's five
hits.
Jason
Rogers (New Castle, DE/William Penn) (1-4)
suffered the loss after allowing seven
runs, six earned, on 13 hits in seven
innings on the mound. He gave way to Chris
Garrick (Nesconset, NY/Smithtown) who
allowed three runs, two earned on three
hits and finally Darrell Lewis (Bealeton,
VA/Liberty) who took over in the ninth and
let up one hit.
Nick
Baldasari posted three hits, including a
triple, and drove in a run while Andrew
Heineman also scattered out three
hits.Greg Mason added a pair of singles
and drove in two runs in the
contest.
Mathew
Gilbert (1-2) picked up the win and
allowed one unearned run on three hits in
5.1 innings on the mound.
In
the top of the first the Hawks lead off
hitter grounded out to second base but
Mike Gentile and Baldasari followed with
singles to give Saint Joseph's a man in
scoring position. Godusky sent a deep ball
over the head of Menchaca in center which
went for two RBI as he scored when Adriano
Petrutz grounded out to short.
Then
Hens were held scoreless until the bottom
of the sixth when Brent Rogers singled
home Menchaca who reached on a fielder's
choice.
Saint
Joseph's added two runs on three hits in
the top of the seventh and Delaware added
one in the bottom of the inning. Menchaca
sent Davison home by reaching on a
fielder's choice but the Hens could post
no more and left two men on.
The
Hawks led off the eighth with a single by
Rob Pimpinella and was followed by another
single by Heineman. On the ensuing
fielder's choice the Hens got the lead
runner at third but could not turn the
double play as Garrick loaded the bases by
walking Gentile. Baldasari drove home
Heineman with a ground out to short and
Jakubowski scored on a passed ball.
Godusky singled and advanced to second on
an overthrow which sent Gentile home and
ended the Hawks scoring.
Delaware
returns to action as the Hens travel to
Norfolk, VA for a three-game set with Old
Dominion slated to begin on Friday, April
22 at 7 p.m.
