Donovan Belts Five Hits to Lift Delaware
Baseball Over Temple,
13-11

(April 7, 2005)-- Second baseman Brock
Donovan (New Castle, DE/William Penn-at
right) batted 5-for-5 with two doubles and
drove in four runs to lift the University
of Delaware baseball team over Temple
University, 13-11 Thursday afternoon at
Ambler Field.
Matt
Heppner (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) (1-2)
picked up the win for the Blue Hens
(12-15) after allowing one run in two
innings on the mound. Carl Taylor (0-1)
took the loss for the Owls (7-14) by
allowing five runs on seven hits in 4.1
innings pitched.
Todd
Davison (Somers Point, NJ/St. Augustine),
Adam Tsakonas (Pottstown, PA/Boyertown
Area), Brandon Menchaca (Wilmington,
DE/Concord), and Kelly Buber (Yuba City,
CA/Yuba Community) each drove in two runs
while Davison and Tsakonas joined Dan
Kozek (Medofrd, NJ/Shawnee) by adding
doubles. Ryan Graham (Danville, IL/Triton)
had two hits, scored two runs, and drove
in a run while Brian Valichka (Frederick,
MD/Urbana), Dan Richardson (Bear,
DE/Caravel), and Bryan Hagerich (Somerset,
PA/Somerset) each singled to round out
Delaware's 17 hits.
Five Blue
Hen pitchers saw action on the mound as
Chad Kerfoot (Owings, MD/Northern) took
the start and pitched two innings and
allowed two runs before being replaced by
Kevin Brown (Wilmington, DE/McKean) in the
third inning. Brown gave way to Heppner in
the fourth as Billy Harris (Bear,
DE/Salesanium) and Jason Rogers (New
Castle, DE/William Penn) finished out the
game.
Temple
rightfielder Pete Colon smacked three
homeruns on the afternoon, two solo and
one two-run shot, to give him three runs
scored and a total of five RBI as the
bottom four of the Owl lineup combined for
four runs, seven hits, and seven RBI.
Jason Adamek blasted a solo homer to right
field while Mike Weckenman went 2-for-4
with two doubles and two RBI.
The Owls
put the first run on the board in the
second inning when Dan Brady doubled to
score Marc Wagner who singled to center.
Brady scored when Gene Burpoe singled and
eventually advanced to third on a throwing
error by Richardson. Delaware answered
back in the top of the third with a
Donovan double to the gap in right-center
that sent Kozek across to cut the score to
2-1.
The Owls
increased their lead to 4-1 however before
the Hens could take the lead for good with
a four-run inning in the top of the fifth.
Kozek doubled to center and advanced to
third when Graham singled to left. Graham
was replaced on the bag by Brent Rogers
(Claymont, DE/Mt. Pleasant) who scored
along with Kozek when Donovan shot his
second run-scoring double of the day to
right field. Davison followed with a walk
and Tsakonas brought home both Donovan and
Davison with a run-scoring double of his
own to left-center.
Delaware
returns to action on Monday, April 11 when
it faces New York Tech at 3 p.m. at Bob
Hannah Stadium.
