Goes the Distance as Hagerich's Three-Run
Homer Lifts Error-Plagued Hens Over UMBC,

NEWARK,
DE-- A three-run blast in the bottom of
the second by Bryan Hagerich (Somerset,
PA/Somerset) led the University of
Delaware baseball team past UMBC 5-3 on
Wednesday afternoon at Bob Hannah
Stadium.
Billy
Harris (Bear, DE/Salesanium) (1-0) took
the win for the Hens (7-7) pitching
Delaware's first complete game this season
allowing no earned runs on seven hits
while striking out eight.
Taking
the loss for UMBC (2-7) was Jon Pavlis
(0-1) who allowed five runs, three earned,
on seven hits while striking out six in
6.1 innings on the mound.
Delaware
overcame a season-high seven errors,
including four a in a three-run second
inning by the Retrievers.
Brandon
Menchaca (Wilmington, DE/Concord) was a
home run away from the cycle as the
freshman batted 3-for-4 and added a stolen
base while Adam Tsakonas (Pottstown,
PA/Boyertown) added a pair of singles in
three trips to the plate. Brock Donovan
(New Castle, DE/William Penn) added a
double and an RBI while Dave Harden
(Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) stole two bases
and added a run scored.
The
Hens came out aggressive in the first
inning as Menchaca singled, stole second,
and advanced to third on a passed ball.
Two batters later he scored when Donovan
doubled to left field giving Delaware the
early 1-0 lead. The Retrievers only scores
came in the second inning when Ian Carman
and Brian Moran each singled and the Hens
commited four errors to score UMBC's three
runs.
Delaware
added one more insurance run in the fourth
inning as Harden scored after stealing
third on a throwing error by the
catcher.
Kyle
Wildasin, Carman, and Moran tallied a pair
of singles while Moran drove in two runs
and Carman added a run scored.
Delaware
out-hit the Retrievers nine to seven and
held them without an extra base hit.
Delaware
returns to action tommorow when it faces
George Washington University at 2:30 p.m.
at Bob Hannah Stadium.
