Saturday, February 26, 2000
CONWAY, SC - Another strong day at
the plate from junior second baseman Andrew Salvo was
not enough as the University of Delaware dropped its second
straight baseball game to Coastal Carolina, 7-4, Saturday
afternoon at Coastal Carolina.
Delaware (1-2) had an effective day from
Salvo (S. Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's), who went two for
three at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
Delaware got out to a 2-0 lead in the
first when Salvo doubled home Casey Fahy (Clayton,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Bobby Fry (Anaheim Hills,
CA/Canyon) who both reached base on walks to open the game.
Coastal Carolina (10-2) narrowed the gap
in the second when Chanticleer catcher Jason Davis scored on
Peter Maestrales fieding error (Delray Beach, FL/Pope
John Paul II) off the bat of Shawn Vinju. The Chants took
the lead in the third when first baseman Chad Felty singled
to center driving home Brooks Marzka.
The Hens tied the score in the top half
of the fourth (3-3) when Maestrales scored on a Ryan
Preziosi (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) sacrifice fly. The
Hens regained the lead when Salvo stole home in the
fifth.
Coastal regained the advantage in the
bottom half of the fifth (5-4) when Brooks Marzka doubled
down the left field line off of starter Tim Lorito
(Huntington Station, NY/Connetquote), driving in Mario
Gianfortune. Marzka later scored on Jeff Romond
(Berkeley Hts., NJ/Gov. Livingston) wild pitch. Coastal
added two more runs, one in seventh and one in the eighth to
seal the game at 7-4.
Delaware's Vince Vukovich
(Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Chris Kolodzey (Cherry
Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) were the only other Hens to get
hits on the afternoon.
