America East Tournament 2nd Round Delaware 7, Vermont 2 May 19, 2000   Dave Mullin WILMINGTON, DE - Reid Gorecki had four hits and drove in two runs as the University of Delaware advanced to the America East Championship game with a 7-2 win over the University of Vermont at Frawley Stadium. Delaware, 36-18, awaits the winner of tonight's Vermont-Northeastern game for Saturday's title game. The winner of the Vermont-Northeastern game would have to defeat Delaware twice to earn the America East Championship. Delaware starter Dave Mullin (10-4) pitched a complete game, scattering 13 hits. Mullin struck out two and did not walk a batter. Delaware broke open a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Vince Vukovich led off the inning with a single and John Schneider followed with a walk. Steve Harden sacrificed the runners to second and third before Kris Dufner walked to load the bases. Vermont starter and loser Brian Robinson (2-3), who allowed six hits and seven walks while striking out seven in 5.1 innings, then walked Casey Fahy to force in the go-ahead run. Gorecki then greeted reliever Jeff Dixon with an RBI single to right field for a 3-1 Blue Hen lead. Delaware added four runs in the seventh inning. Schneider had an RBI double and Fahy added a two-run triple. Gorecki's infield single accounted for the Blue Hens' final run. The Catamounts, 28-21, scored first in the bottom of the first when Wade Rikert hit his sixth home run of the season. Delaware tied the score in the second when Schneider doubled in Peter Maestrales, who had led off the inning with a walk.
