Hartford (10-28, 3-17 America East) got out to a 1-0 lead in game one when a Ryan Gardner groundout scored designated hitter Josh Yuhas. Delaware (26-15, 13-3 America East)
threatened in the fifth as Casey Fahy (Clayton,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) led off with a bunt single. Fahy
later stole second and third base. On the day, he had three
steals and has 25 on the season. Fahy scored on an Andrew
Salvo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) sacrifice fly.
Following Peter Maestrales (Delray Beach, FL/Pope John
II) and Vince Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern)
walks, Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) doubled, driving in
all three base runners, giving the Hens a 4-1 lead. Delaware
added insurance in the sixth as Bobby Fry (Anaheim Hills,
CA/Canyon) tripled and scored on a Fahy groundout. Three
runs off of starting pitcher Brian Mascaro were unearned.
Game two featured the Hens offense producing 13 runs on 13 hits. The Hens jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back. The inning was highlighted by Chris Kolodzey's (Cherry Hill, NJ/East) team-leading seventh triple and a double from Maestrales. Delaware got homeruns from Harden and a first-career homer from Doug Eitelman (Wilmington, DE/Concord). Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) had two doubles on the day and three stolen bases. Vic Sage (Springfield, PA/Springfield) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He picked up the victory (2-2), giving up just two runs on five hits. Fahy and Salvo are going neck and neck in the stolen base race. Fahy has 25 while Salvo trails with 24. Salvo also has an eight-game hitting streak while Harden has an eight-game hitting streak as well. Delaware has picked up its first four-game America East sweep since last season in Hartford. Delaware has now won 13 straight against the Hawks, a mark that dates back to the 1997 season. The game saw Hartford Head Coach Harvey Shapiro and Assistant Coach John Shea get ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning. Delaware will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Rutgers at Delaware Diamond. The game will be televised on tape delay by CN8.
