In the first game, Delaware jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) singled in Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial), who reached on a single and stole second base.
Delaware (14-9, 3-1) went up 5-0 in the third inning when Kolodzey hit his first homerun of the day, a three-run homer down the left field line, as he drove home Andrew Salvo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) and Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). Peter Maestrales (Delray Beach, FL/Pope John Paul II) followed Kolodzey with a solo shot, his fifth of the season. Starting pitcher Jason Vincent (Seaford, DE/Seaford) yielded just two runs on eight hits. He allowed Maine to score in the fourth on a Mike Ross homerun. Maine also picked up a run in the seventh. The second game of the afternoon featured a very different game as both teams got the bats out and hit away. Maine got out to its first lead of the weekend in the first when Jamie Barrett doubled down the right-field line and scored on a Joe Drapeau single to center. Jon Hambelton singled home Ross, who reached on a walk. Both runs were generated with two outs off of starting pitcher Tim Lorito (Huntington Station, NY/Connetqoute). Delaware put three on the board in the first highlighted by a Gorecki homerun and a two-run homer from Kolodzey, his second of the afternoon. Maine (9-15, 1-3) got going again in the second by puttting up seven runs. Maine regained the lead on an Alain Picard two-run homer to right center field. Hambelton and Aaron Young added homeruns in the inning. The Hens made an attempt to get back in the game. Down 11-3 in the fifth, Delaware got five runs back as Gorecki hit homerun number two of the day while Kolodzey hit his third homer, a two-run shot to left center. Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) added his second round-tripper of the season. Maine scored four more runs in the sixth and Delaware countered for three in the seventh, but it was not enough for Delaware as Maine captured its first conference victory of the season, 15-11. Delaware will go on the road for six games beginning with Tuesday evening's game against St. Joe's at 7 p.m. from Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, PA. That game will be televised live on CN8.
