Delaware Falls
in the Final Inning
BOSTON - Homeruns from Andrew
Salvo and Vince Vukovich were not enough for
Delaware to take the second and final game of the weekend
from Northeastern, falling 5-4 to the Huskies in baseball,
Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
Delaware (22-13, 9-3 America East) jumped
out to a 1-0 lead in the first as junior Chris Kolodzey
(Cherry Hill, NJ/East) singled to left field driving in
Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial),
who reached base on a walk.
Northeastern (15-12, 10-4 America East)
countered by taking the lead in the second. With the score
tied at one, Jody Corcoran singled to right off of Delaware
starter Jason Vincent (Seaford, DE/Seaford), scoring
Ben Beck to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage.

The Hens tied the score in the third as Salvo (East Islip,
NY/St. Anthony's) homered to right field off of Huskies
starter Chris Walsh. The Hens took the lead in the fourth
when Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) took Walsh over the
left field fence for his first homer of the year. It gave
the Hens a 3-2 lead.
After an RBI single in the sixth by
Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) the Hens held
a 4-2 lead, a lead they carried into the seventh inning. The
momentum shifted into the Huskies corner at that point.
Northeastern loaded the bases with one out and catcher Luke
Carlin took Vincent down the right filed line, resulting in
a game-ending three-run double.
The second game of today's scheduled
doubleheader was postponed due to rain. The Hens and Huskies
are not scheduled to meet again during the 2000 regular
season.
Delaware will take to the field on Monday
night as it will be entertained by local NAIA rival
Wilmington College. The game is scheduled to be a 7:00 p.m.
start from Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.
