NEWARK, DE - Delaware boomed offensively for thirteen runs in the third inning of game one, but was bit more quiet in game two as the Hens split a doubleheader with Princeton University, winning game one 15-1, but dropping game two 6-5, in baseball, Sunday afternoon at Delaware Diamond.

Delaware and Princeton were scoreless in game one until the Hens' half of the third when Delaware exploded to put 13 runs on the board. John Schneider (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) knocked in the first two runs of the game as he doubled, driving in Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) and Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge). Delaware went up 5-0 when Andrew Salvo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) hit his first home run of the season, scoring Vince Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Schneider as well. The Hens saw Chris Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) double and Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Schneider and Vukovich single before Salvo came up again and hit his second home run of the inning. The Hens led 13-0 after three innings.

With the two homers in one inning, Salvo becomes the first player in Delaware history to have six RBI in one inning and just the second to have two home runs in one inning (last done by Matt Schmidt on April 29, 1993). Two home runs in one inning also ties the NCAA record (many tied at two).

Princeton scored its only run in the fourth on a Max Krance sacrifice fly which scored Ryan Acterberg. Delaware added two more runs in the fifth inning to close the scoring, 15-1. Delaware pitcher Rich McGuire (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur) had a stellar day on the mound as he pitched a complete-game four-hitter.

Game two featured the return of the Princeton offense as the Tigers jumped out to 2-0 lead in the first. After reaching on a single, Acterberg scored on a Andrew Hanson ground out. Pat Boran, who doubled down the left field line, scored when Casey Hildreth reached on a Dufner error.

Delaware pulled even in the first as Fahy doubled down the left field line. Fahy scored on a Salvo sacrifice fly. Kolodzey tripled in the inning and scored when Peter Maestrales (Delray Beach, FL/Pope John Paul II) singled to shallow right field.

Princeton took the lead 5-2 in the third, highlighted by a Jon Watterson single, scoring Krance. Delaware added one in the bottom half of the inning when Salvo grounded out to second base, driving in Fahy, who reached on a single.

Delaware inched closer in the fifth adding a run, but Princeton answered with one of its own in the sixth. Delaware trailed 6-4 in the seventh when Fahy walked and stole second. Salvo drove in Fahy on a double, making it 6-5. Princeton pitcher Jason Quintana got Kolodzey to fly out to right to end the drama.

On the day, Salvo accumulated nine RBI. Delaware had one other positive as Harden returned to the line-up following a one-week layoff due to an ankle injury.

Delaware will battle Colonial opponent George Mason on Tuesday at Delaware Diamond.
