PHILADELPHIA, PA - Delaware rallied from two runs down to tie Temple in the ninth, just to see Temple score a run in the tenth and pick its first win of year, beating the Hens, 8-7 in ten innings at Erny Field, Thursday afternoon in baseball.

Temple (1-10-2) drew first blood in the bottom half of the second as catcher Jeff Roma had a one-out double off of Delaware starting pitcher Jason Vincent (Seaford, DE/Seaford). Roma scored when centerfielder Bob Filler hit a double. Joseph Lyall followed immediately with an RBI single, driving in Filler.

Delaware (8-7) got on the board in the top half of the fifth. With the score 3-0, Chris Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) singled to left field as he broke up the perfect game being thrown by Temple starting pitcher Jeff Rugg. With two outs and Kolodzey still at first, Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) walked and catcher John Schneider (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) reached on an error by first baseman Robert Cucinotta, scoring Kolodey. Dufner also scored in the inning on a Rugg wild pitch.

Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Delaware scored three runs resulting from back-to-back-to-back doubles from Andrew Salvo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's); Kolodzey, who drove in Salvo; and Peter Maestrales (Delray Beach, FL/Pope John Paul II), who knocked in Kolodzey. Maestrales later scored on a Rugg wild pitch.

Delaware trailed 7-5 in the ninth when the leadoff batter Dufner walked. Schneider followed with a double that was just out of the reach of leftfielder Chris Krusen; Dufner scored on the double. Ryan Shipton (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) pinch-ran for Schneider and the move paid off for the Hens as Vince Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) singled to left and drove Shipton home to tie the score. Neither Temple nor Delaware could score in its next at bat.

The Owls threatened with two outs in the bottom of the tenth. Delaware relief pitcher Dave Mullin (Swarthmore, PA/Ridley) allowed Lyall to single. Lyall then stole second base and remained there as pinch-hitter Kyle Sweppenhiser walked. Jim Tully ended the drama as he drove a single into left field scoring Lyall and gave the Owls their first victory of the season. Mullin (3-3) picked up the loss in the ballgame.

Delaware will next take to the field on Sunday as it hosts Ivy League Princeton in a doubleheader. The action will get underway at 12:00 noon.
