Delaware (27-16) scored in every inning of the game as the Hens took the lead first and never looked back. In the first inning, Delaware got on the board as Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) got a one-out bunt single. He then proceeded to steal his 12th and 13th bases, putting him on third base. He had four steals on the day (15 for the season). Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/East) drove him in on a two-out double to right center, giving the Hens a 1-0 advantage.
UMBC (27-18-1) had a lone highlight in the fourth as Andy Zielinski drove home Adam Hawkey on a fielder's choice. The Retrievers got two doubles from second baseman Chad Gerben. The Hens saw a five-run seventh highlighted by a Peter Maestrales (Delray Beach, FL/Pope John Paul II) triple, his third on the season. Delaware had doubles from Schneider, Doug Eitelman (Wilmington, DE/Concord), Vince Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Dufner. Fahy and Maestrales eached tripled while Kolodzey hit his ninth homer of the season. Romond (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) went six strong innings in the start. He struck out four and giving up just one earned run and four hits. Dave Mullin (Swarthmore, PA/Ridley) pitched two innings in relief and Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) closed out the game for the Hens. The career of Hannah is over at Delaware Diamond. He coached his Delaware teams to a record 512-142-1 at the Diamond. Delaware Diamond has never seen another head coach in a Delaware uniform. In Hannah's first season, the Hens competed at Frazier Field. This season, the Hens were 16-5 at Delaware Diamond. Delaware will travel to Burlington, VT this weekend and battle the Catamounts of Vermont in a four-game set. The Hens will return to Delaware and take on Delaware State at Frawley Stadium next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. AGATE UMBC
