Delaware (28-17, 14-4 America East)
trailed 1-0 in the second inning when Peter Maestrales
(Delray Beach, FL) and Vince Vukovich (Voorhees,
NJ/Eastern) led off with back-to-back singles. Schneider
(Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) followed with an RBI double,
tying the score at 1-1. Kris Dufner (Philadelphia,
PA/Father Judge) put the ball into play and reached on a
throwing error from shortstop Scott Bourhill, scoring the
go-ahead run in Vukovich. Casey Fahy (Clayton,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic) added a sacrifice fly, driving
home Schneider. Vermont (24-16, 13-7 America East) extended its team win-streak to four in a come from behind victory in game one, winning 7-6. The Catamounts rallied from an early 4-0 deficit. Delaware scored four runs in the first inning of the opener highlighted by singles from Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial), Maestrales, Vukovich and a team-leading eighth triple from Chris Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill). The Cats scored twice in fourth off of starter Rich McGuire (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur). Vermont struck for five in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by a three-run double from Wade Rikert to give the Catamounts a 7-4 lead. The Hens attempted to scratch back with two runs in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as Salvo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) had an RBI single and Kolodzey had a sacrifice fly. Delaware will return to action on Sunday morning as it closes out the four-game set at Vermont.
