Delaware (30-17, 16-4 AMERICA EAST) fell behind early in game one, trailing 2-0 after the first inning. The Hens picked up a run in the second as Vince Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) doubled to drive in Maestrales. Delaware woke up the bats in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, scoring three, four and six runs respectively. The fourth inning was highlighted by a Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) homer, his fourth of the season. The fifth inning featured doubles from Maestrales, and Dufner while the sixth inning saw Salvo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) and Chris Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/East) double.
Game two saw a much tighter game. With the score tied at one, Delaware put a four spot on the board in the third. Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) led off with his 11th double of the season. Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) followed with a single, moving Fahy to third base. Salvo then hit his team-leading 23rd double of the year, driving home Fahy and Gorecki. Maestrales came up two batters later and cranked his team-leading 11th homerun over the right field billboard to give the Hens the 5-1 advantage. Vermont (24-19, 13-9 AMERICA EAST) was not through just yet. The Catamounts battled back to tie the score. The Cats put a four spot of the own on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth. Dan Ruane hit a one-out double off of starter Vic Sage (Springfield, PA/Springfield) to get the ball rolling. Josh Tehonica hit a two-run double, plating Ruane and Michael Cole, who reached on an earlier walk. Left fielder Josh Barry hit a double to right, scoring pinch-runner Chris Antonacci. The Hens went to closer Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson). The Cats managed just one more run, a sacrifice fly in the inning. With a 5-5 tie in the seventh, Delaware managed to work its magic and get the go-ahead run. Bobby Fry (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon) reached on a Scott Bourhill error. He moved up on a Fahy sacrifice bunt. Gorecki knocked home the game-winner with a single to left field. Harden shut down the Cats in the seventh to record his first career win at Delaware. Picking up two wins this afternoon meant that the Hens have now won 30 or more games for the seventh straight season. Delaware remains in first place of America East with a record of 16-4. Towson won three out of four against Northeastern and remains in second place with an 18-6 record. These two teams square off at Towson next Saturday and Sunday. Prior to its battle with the Tigers, Delaware will take on intrastate rival Delaware State, Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium.
