PHILADELPHIA, PA - Behind three hits from Casey Fahy and Steve Harden, the University of Delaware ended a three-game losing streak to Villanova by defeating the Wildcats, 15-5, in baseball, Wednesday afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field in Philadelphia. The game was shortened to eight innings due to darkness. Delaware (6-5) got 15 runs and 15 hits on the afternoon. Delaware got on the board in the first when Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) walked. They advanced one base on a Drew Kirchner wild pitch. Fahy scored on an Andrew Salvo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) single and both Dufner and Salvo scored on a Chris Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) double. Delaware, leading 3-2, added three more in the second making it 6-2, highlighted by a Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) double driving in Vince Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern). The Hens put up five runs in the fifth, started by a Salvo walk and two stolen bases. Salvo scored on a James Russell wild pitch. Delaware finished off the day scoring four in the eighth as Salvo reached on an error by Matt Longo. He scored on Kolodzey's second double of the day. Harden had the final hit on the day as he went three for four with two doubles. Salvo tied a school record with five stolen bases in a game, tying Dan Colunio, who reached the mark twice in 1995 and Mark Rubini, who stole five bases in 1986. Villanova (6-6) scored two runs in the first and single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Hens had a nice outing from starter Rich McGuire (Wantaugh, NY/MacArthur) going six innings, giving up five earned runs while recording five strikeouts and three walks. Delaware got multiple hit games from Fahy, Kolodzey, Bobby Fry (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon), Vukovich and Harden. Delaware will host LaSalle on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in a doubleheader at Delaware Diamond.
