Game One: Maine 3, Delaware 2 Game Two: Maine 11, Delaware 1 April 14, 2001 Drapeau Hits 3 Home Runs in Nightcap Chris Kolodzey hit a home run for the Blue Hens SMITHFIELD, RI -- Rusty Tucker threw a complete game in the opener and Joe Drapeau hit three home runs in the nightcap to lead the University of Maine baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of the University of Delaware, 3-2 and 11-1, Saturday afternoon at Bryant College Stadium. In the opener, the Blue Hens (19-10, 6-4 America East) took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Chris Kolodzey singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Vince Vukovich. But Maine (20-7, 7-3 America East) would score all of its runs in the fifth to take control. Mike Livulpi singled off Delaware starter Rich McGuire with one out, and advanced to second on an Aaron Young single. Drapeau then doubled home Livulpi to tie the game, and after an intentional walk and a strikeout, Alain Picard singled home two runs, which would prove to be the difference. Delaware got one back in the sixth on a home run by Kolodzey, but Tucker retired the Hens in order in the seventh to pick up his fourth win of the season. The Black Bears started the nightcap quickly, as Livulpi led off with a home run. The Hens got the run back in the second, as with one out Kris Dufner singled, Steve Harden walked, and Reid Gorecki singled to load the bases. Casey Fahy then singled to score Dufner, but Harden was thrown out at the plate, and the Hens could not take the lead. Maine re-took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second, and the Black Bears blew the game open with four runs in the fourth. Drapeau homered to centerfield to lead off the inning, and after Maine loaded the bases, two runs scored on an error by Dufner. Maine scored two in the fifth off Blue Hen reliever Nick Spiewak and three in the sixth off Rob Ogilvie to conclude the scoring. Jason Vincent started for Delaware and took his first loss of the season after allowing six earned runs and six hits in three and a third inings pitched. Maine became the first team to sweep Delaware in a conference doubleheader since Northeastern beat the Hens twice on May 16, 1999.
