Game One: Delaware 15, Northeastern 2 Game Two: Delaware 7, Northeastern 4 April 1, 2001 Peter Maestrales went a combined 5-for-7 with five runs scored Sunday NEWARK, DE -- The Delaware baseball team exploded for 15 runs in the opener and freshman pitcher Mike Mihalik allowed zero earned runs in six innings in the nightcap as the Blue Hens swept their second doubleheader in as many days from Northeastern, winning 15-2 and 7-4 Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Reid Gorecki, Chris Kolodzey, and John Schneider each had three hits in the first game, as Delaware (16-6, 4-0 America East) cruised to the victory. The Hens scored three in the first inning, as Peter Maestrales singled and stole second, Kolodzey singled, and Schneider hit a two-run home run. Northeastern (2-12, 0-4) got two back in the second inning on a two-run shot by Ben Beck, but Delaware answered with six runs in the third and six more in the fifth. In the third inning, the first eight Hens reached base, with Kolodzey, Schneider, Frank Fresconi, and Steve Harden each recording run-scoring hits. Delaware pitcher Vic Sage was the recipient of the scoring explosion, and picked up the win by allowing just three hits and two runs in five innings of work. Rob Ogilvie threw two shutout innings in relief. In the nightcap, the freshman starter Mihalik allowed just five hits and four runs, all unearned, in six innings to win his first game as a Blue Hen. Delaware struck early in the game, as Casey Fahy led off with a double and Andrew Salvo followed with the first of his two home runs to put Delaware up 2-0. The Hens added a run in the second when Kris Dufner's RBI groundout scored Fresconi, and scored what would prove to be the game-winning runs in the fifth inning. Salvo led off the frame with his second round-tripper, and Maestrales followed with one of his three doubles. After a Kolodzey single, Maestrales scored on a sacrifice fly by Vince Vukovich. Kolodzey then scored when Northeastern centerfielder Brad Czarnowski misplayed a single by Fresconi. Northeastern came back to score four runs in the sixth. After the Huskies loaded the bases with one out on two errors and a walk, Coley O'Donnell hit a sacrifice fly to put Northeastern on the board. After Beck singled, Luke Carlin doubled to left field, clearing the bases and cutting the lead to 6-4. But Delaware answered in the bottom of the inning, as Kolodzey, who finished the day with six RBIs, singled home Maestrales. Brian Zeigler allowed two hits in the seventh but held the Huskies scoreless to pick up the save.
