Game One: Delaware 15, Penn State 7 Game Two: Delaware 4, Penn State 3 (10 innings) March 18, 2001 Gorecki's bunt single wins game in the 10th Chris Kolodzey had an RBI triple and scored the game-winning run NEWARK, DE -- Chris Kolodzey scored on a bunt single by Reid Gorecki in the bottom of the tenth inning to give the Delaware baseball team a 4-3 win and a three-game weekend sweep over Penn State Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium. Earlier in the day, the Blue Hens defeated the Nittany Lions, 15-7, in a game that was halted due to darkness after the teams played six innings on Saturday. Delaware (9-5), which has now won eight straight games since starting the season 1-5, trailed Penn State 2-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth, but Frank Fresconi hit a two-run home run, his first as a Blue Hen, to put UD ahead. However, the Lions (6-14) tied the game in the ninth on a two-out single by Doug Rodio. In the tenth, Kolodzey and John Schneider walked with one out. After a strikeout, Kolodzey stole third and Schneider stole second. Gorecki then laid down a perfect bunt to shortstop while Kolodzey sped home with the winning run. Both teams scored in the first inning. Penn State got a sacrifice fly from Rodio, while Kolodzey tripled home Andrew Salvo for the Hens. Penn State took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Mike DeRenzo. Briarcliffe Community College transfer Mike Pelcher picked up his first win as a Blue Hen, pitching four innings in relief, allowing just five hits and one unearned run. Delaware freshman Mike Mihalik also turned in a strong performance, allowing seven hits and two runs in six innings. In the first game, play started in the top of the seventh with the Hens up 15-6. Nick Spiewak finished the game for UD, allowing three hits and one run to get the save.
