Towson 4, Delaware 3 (8 innings) Delaware 3, Towson 2 April 7, 2001 Blue Hens Score Two in Seventh To Salvage A Split Kris Dufner Hit a Two-Run Double To Win the Nightcap for UD NEWARK, DE -- Blue Hens shortstop Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Delaware baseball team a 3-2 win over Towson and a split in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Towson won the opener, 4-3, in eight innings. The nightcap featured a pitchers' duel between Delaware's Jason Vincent and Towson's Matt Brady, and the Hens (17-7, 5-1 America East) took a 1-0 lead into the top of the sixth inning. However, the Tigers (17-7, 4-2 America East) tied the game when Ryan Avila and Joey Marcozzi led off the frame with back-to-back doubles. Towson then took the lead in the seventh on a solo home run by Brian McKenna. John Schneider led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, and was pinch run for by Casey Fahy. Vince Vukovich then flied out to left field, and Fahy advanced to second base on a wild pitch. After Steve Harden walked and Fahy stole third, Towson pitcher Jason Walter entered the game. The first batter he faced was Dufner, who lined a pitch down the right field line to score both Fahy and Harden and give the Hens the win. Mike Pelcher, who relieved Vincent after McKenna's home run, took the win for Delaware, while Brady was the hard-look loser for Towson. In the opener, Reid Gorecki dropped a fly ball hit by Tom Trela to allow two runs to score with two outs in the eighth inning to give Towson the win. The Hens did mount a rally in the bottom of the eighth, as with two outs Chris Kolodzey doubled, and Vukovich singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. But Towson starter Bryan Rogers struck out Schneider on a full count pitch to end the game. The Hens jumped out in front with two runs in the third, as Andrew Salvo singled home Fahy and scored on a Peter Maestrales double. The Tigers tied the game with two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Marcozzi and Avila. The game would remain tied at two until the eighth. Brady allowed just eight hits and three runs to pick up his fourth win of the season. Delaware starter Rich McGuire scattered eight hits and gave up just two earned runs in the loss.
