Delaware 12, Albany 7 March 24, 2002 Blue Hens Ride a Pair of 3-run HR's to Victory Shortstop Kris Dufner batted 4 for 4 with a triple and a 3-run HR NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware got a pair of three-run home runs in the seventh innings to erase a one-run deficit and defeat the University of Albany 12-7, wrapping up the three-game non-conference weekend series at Bob Hannah Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Great Danes (3-13) jumped out to an early two-run lead in the second inning has Tim Crudo scored Dan Schoonmaker on an RBI double, then later scored on Eddie Scott's single. The Blue Hens (11-9) would answer in the bottom of the third inning, as Brock Donovan (New Castle, DE/William Penn) kicked off a three-run rally with his third triple of the season. Donovan scored on Kris Dufner's single. Dufner would break the 2-2 tie scoring one batter later on the first of Steve Van Note's (Brigantine, NJ/Atlantic City) two doubles hit on the game. Delaware would add three more runs before Albany erased the four-run deficit to take the lead with a five-run seventh inning, highlighted by Fred Estes two-run triple. The lead would not stand for long, as Nick DeCarlo (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) hit his third home-run of the season, a three-run shot that put the Hens up for good. Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) added more insurance to wrap up the seventh inning spurt by belting another three-run homer, his fifth of the season. Dufner also added his first triple of the year as he finished the afternoon a perfect 4 for 4, with four RBI's, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Sophomore Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) batted 4 for 5 with two RBI, while Brock Donovan scored three runs going 3 for 5 at the plate. Delaware starting pitcher Mike Mihalik went 6 2/3 innings striking out six, before giving way to Ryan Dulaney (Annapolis, MD/Riverdale Baptist) who pitched 2 1/3 strong innings to pick up his first victory of the season. The Blue Hens are back in action tomorrow as they travel up to Philadelphia to take on Villanova in the opening round of the Liberty Bell Classic.
