Boston College 9, Delaware 8 (10) Delaware 4, Boston College 1 March 16, 2002 Jason Vincent Pitches Blue Hens to Doubleheader Split Jason Vincent Pitched the Hens to victory with his second complete game of the season. NEWARK, DE -- After letting the first game of a non-conference doubleheader to Boston College slip away in the 10th inning by a score of 9-8, the University of Delaware baseball team came back to take the second game 4-1 earning a split of the twinbill behind a superb pitching performance from starter Jason Vincent on an overcast Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. With the Blue Hens clinging to a one-run lead in the seventh inning, second baseman Nick DeCarlo (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) provided added run insurance by blasting a solo home run, his second of the season. Starting pitcher Jason Vincent (Seaford, DE/Seaford) finished the job from there, pitching his way to a second consecutive complete game victory, holding the Eagles hitters to just five hits and one run as the Blue Hens (6-9) rebounded from their Game 1 loss to take the second game 4-1. Vincent also earned a complete game victory, in a seven inning contest against Delaware State on March 9. In his last two outings, the sophomore right-hander has stymied the opposition allowing just three runs and 11 hits over 16 innings. After going 0 for 5 in the first game, DeCarlo redeemed himself in the second game finishing 2 for 3 adding a double to go along with his home run. In the first game, Boston College (9-6) took the advantage in the 10th inning as Jeff Mackor scored on a Marc Albano's sacrifice fly, and the one-run lead would stand as pitcher Chris Lambert set down the Blue Hen hitters in order for his third victory of the year. Mackor went 3 for 5 in the game, belting a double and a home run. Offensively for Delaware in the first game, Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) scored two runs on three hits, and Steve Van Note (Brigantine, NJ/Atlantic City) hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season. Delaware outfielder Casey Fahy hit safely in both games to extend his hitting streak to eight games. The two teams will be back at it again tomorrow, when they finish their three game series with a single game at Hannah Stadium beginning at noon.
