Delaware 5, Boston College 2 March 17, 2002 Mike Mahalik Pitches Blue Hens Past the Eagles Casey Fahy delivered the game-winning hit in the 7th inning NEWARK, DE -- For the second straight day, the University of Delaware received a superb outing from its starting pitcher and defeated Boston College 5-2 on a cold and dreary Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Blue Hens starting pitcher Mike Mihalik (Allentown, PA/Parkland) followed Jason Vincent's complete game performance from the previous game on Saturday, by hurling a nine inning gem of his own. Mihalik shut down the BC offense by allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters en route to his third victory of the year. Mihalik remained flawlessly in control much of the game giving up just one walk while surrendering one earned run and holding BC scoreless through the first five innings. Sparked by back-to-back doubles from Matt Lederhos and Brian Macchi, Boston College (9-7) took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. Delaware would answer back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score as Brock Donovan (New Castle, DE/William Penn) scored on a Steve Van Note (Brigantine, NJ/Atlantic City) groundout to shortstop. The following inning outfielder Doug Eitelman (Wilmington, DE/Concord) jump started a three-run rally in as he slapped a double down the leftfield line. Three batters later, Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) put the Blue Hens up for good as he singled past the second baseman, driving home Eitelman with the game-winning score. Fahy, extended his current hitting-streak to nine games, as he went 2 for 4 with one run and two RBI. Delaware (7-9) will wrap up its nine game homestand on Tuesday at 3 p.m. when George Washington University pays a visit to Bob Hannah Stadium.
