Delaware 17, Delaware State 5 April 22, 2002 McGuire Notches a Milestone as Hens Clobber Hornets Rich McGuire became Delaware's all-time strikeout leader WILMINGTON, DE -- Senior Rich McGuire surpassed Matt Phillips (1995-98) as the University of Delaware's all-time leader in strikeouts, and the Blue Hens offense pounded out 14 hits en route to a lopsided 17-5 victory over intrastate rival Delaware State University Monday night at Frawley Stadium. Rich McGuire (Wantagh, NY/MacAthur) struck out Eddy Linares in the second inning for his 236th career stikeout, passing the mark held by Phillips. The senior right-hander struck out a season-high eight batters over six innings allowing just two hits to pick up his fifth victory of the season. Redshirt freshman Brock Donovan (New Castle, DE/William Penn) batted a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBI, and three runs scored, while Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) blasted two doubles and knocked in a total of five runs as Delaware posted it's third straight victory over Delaware State this season. Also for Delaware (23-15), junior Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY Kellenberg) scored three runs and collected a pair of hits to run his current hitting-streak to 16 games, the most by any Blue Hen since Brian August (1995-97) batted safely in 16-consecutive games in 1995. At the plate for the Hornets (31-15), Phil Sullinger belted two doubles, walked twice and knocked in a pair of runs.
