Delaware 6, Hofstra 5 May 3, 2002 Blue Hens Get a Scare From Last Place Hofstra  John Schneider hit the game-winning sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lift the Blue Hens NEWARK, DE -- John Schneider scored Reid Gorecki with the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lift the University of Delaware to a 6-5 victory over Hofstra University in a Colonial Athletic Association series opener on Friday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Delaware squandered a four-run lead, allowing Hofstra (10-34, 2-14 CAA) to tie the game 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning on Brian Hillmann's RBI triple. But the Blue Hens (30-17, 10-4 CAA) answered right back in the bottom half of the inning as Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) led off a walk, then advanced to second base on Kris Dufner's (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) walk. Gorecki then stole third putting himself in position to score what proved to be the game-winning run on Schneider's (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) deep fly out to centerfield. Right-hander Scott Rambo (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) made the lead stick for the Blue Hens, shutting down the Pride in 2-2/3 innings of relief to pick up his team leading seventh victory of the season. The Blue Hens have now won three straight and seven of their last eight games. Dufner hit his seventh home run of the season, leading off the fourth inning with a solo home run, and Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) followed later that inning with a two-run blast of his own, finishing the game 2-for-3. Hillmann led the Pride going 3-for-4, while Mackie Root went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
