Delaware 15, Hofstra 0 May 4, 2002 Rogers whiffs 15 as Blue Hens Clobber Pride Jason Rogers pitched eight shutout innings, allowing just six hits NEWARK, DE -- Freshman pitcher Jason Rogers struck out a career-high 15 batters and the University of Delaware lineup clubbed 17 hits en route to a lopsided 15-0 victory over Hofstra University in the second game of a Colonial Athletic Association series Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Rogers (New Castle, DE/William Penn) stymied Pride hitters allowing just six hits and a walk, while striking out 15 over eight innings of work. The freshman right-hander was just six strikeouts shy of Al Neiger's (1958-59) school record of 21 strikeouts in a nine-inning game set in 1959. The Blue Hens offense wasted no time putting runs on the board, getting five runs off Hofstra starter Ryan Cosentino in the first inning as Brock Donovan (New Castle, DE/William Penn) ripped a two-run single and was followed by Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) who blasted his seventh home run of the season. Every starter in the Blue Hen lineup finished with at least one hit and Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) led all batters with four hits to go with two RBI, one steal, and a run scored, while Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) finished 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Hofstra (10-35, 2-15 CAA), who has now lost 10 consecutive league games and six overall, was led by Brian Hillman, who repeated his 3-for-4 performance in the series opener on Friday, by hitting three singles in four plate appearances in the loss. With the victory, Delaware (31-17, 11-4 CAA) has now clinched a berth in the CAA Championship Tournament which is being held May 21-25 in Manteo, NC.
