Delaware 13, Towson 2 April 13, 2002 Blue Hens notch first back-to-back conference victories of the season Jason Rogers pitched effectively in his first conference start NEWARK, DE -- Following an emotional stadium dedication ceremony honoring legendary University of Delaware Head Coach Bob Hannah, the Blue Hens responded by pounding out 16 hits and 13 runs to rout Towson University 13-2 in the second of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association baseball series at Bob Hannah Stadium Saturday afternoon. Delaware (18-14, 4-3 CAA) jumped out to an early lead and held a four-run advantage before the Blue Hen offense put the game out of reach for Towson (15-16-1, 3-5) with a six-run rally in the fifth inning. Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) kicked off the scoring spree with a three-run triple, and was then followed by back-to-back home runs by John Schneider (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) and Doug Eitelman (Wilmington, DE/Concord). On the mound, Delaware freshman Jason Rogers (New Castle, DE/William Penn) held the Tigers in check allowing just one earned run and five hits while striking out a career high nine batters picking up the victory in his first conference start. Continuing his recent hot hitting streak, Dufner went 2-for-5 adding a double to go with his triple, as he has now batted .571 (8-for-14) with three doubles, six RBI, and six runs scored over the last three games. John Schneider also added a double and an RBI to go with his two-run home run, and Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) added a pair of doubles as well. Five of Towson's seven hits went for doubles, and junior outfielder Joey Marcozzi was the only Tiger to record more than one hit, as he slapped a pair of singles.
