UNC Wilmington 20, Delaware 2 April 4, 2002 Seahawks Explode for 10 Runs in Sixth Inning Reid Gorecki has hit safely in five straight games NEWARK, DE -- UNC Wilmington claimed its sixth straight victory, after opening up a three-run lead by scoring 10 runs in the sixth inning to blow past the University of Delaware 20-2 in the opening game of a three-game conference baseball series at Bob Hannah Stadium Friday afternoon. After surrendering three consecutive RBI singles to the Seahawks (20-7, 4-0 CAA), Delaware chose to intentionally walk cleanup hitter Matt Wright, only to have the next batter, Magnus Pilegard, blast his first home run of the season, a grand slam which highlighted a 10-run rally that doomed the Blue Hens to their worst defeat in over two years. The UNCW lineup clobbered Blue Hen pitchers to the tune of 22 hits, led by Zach Harris who batted 5-for-7 with a double and six RBI's, and Jamie Hemingway who went 4-for-7 with a home run, a double, and four RBI's. On the mound, UNCW starting pitcher Brian Whitaker went the distance to collect his first complete game victory of the season allowing just two runs, six hits, walking four and striking out six batters. For the Blue Hens (14-13, 1-2 CAA), Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) recorded a pair of hits, and Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Gorecki has now hit safely in the last five games, hitting .529 (7-for-19) over that stretch. Jason Vincent (Seaford, DE/Seaford) suffered the losing decision as he gave up nine runs and 11 hits hits over five and a third innings of work.
