UNC Wilmington 10, Delaware 2 April 7, 2002 Seahwaks Score Five-runs in the First Inning Nick DeCarlo hit his fourth home run of the season NEWARK, DE -- UNC Wilmington jumped out to a five-run lead in the first inning then held the University of Delaware lineup to just seven hits winning the third game of this weekend's Colonial Athletic Association series by a score of 10-2 Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Delaware starting pitcher Mike Mihalik (Allentown, PA/Parkland) got off to a rocky start surrendering a leadoff double to Kiley Vaughn, then loading the bases with a walk and a hit batsman. Magnus Pilegard followed by hitting into a potential double-play opportunity, but Nick DeCarlo overthrew second base allowing two basrunners to score. The Seahawks would plate three more runs in the inning before Mihalik settled down holding UNCW to just 1 hit over the next 4-1/3 innings. UNCW (21-8, 5-1 CAA) padded its lead by hitting three home runs while the Seahawks three-man pitching rotation of Chris Coughlin, Ronald Hill, and Blake Cross stymied the Blue Hens offense allowing two runs on just seven hits. Blue Hen junior Nick DeCarlo (Glen Mills, Pa/Garnet Valley) hit his fourth home run of the season and outfielder Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) extended his hitting-streak to eight games going 2-for-4 with a double. Delaware (15-14, 2-3) is set to face Temple University (11-12) on Tuesday afternoon at Hannah Stadium beginning at 3 p.m. before resuming conference action on Friday, April 12 when longtime rival Towson University pays a visit to Newark.
