Delaware 7, Villanova 5 March 25, 2002 Blue Hens Move onto Semi-Final Round of Liberty Bell Classic Steve Harden pitched the ninth inning to record the Blue Hens first save of the season PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Despite recording just one extra-base hit, the University of Delaware managed to hold off Villanova University by a score of 7-5 in opening-round baseball action of the Liberty Bell Classic played at Richie Ashburn Field Monday afternoon. The Blue Hens (12-9) built a five run lead in the the bottom of the fourth inning following a string of five consecutive singles, the latter of which was a two-run single by Brock Donovan (New Castle, DE/William Penn). Delaware would go on to hit a total of 10 singles throughout the game, collecting only one extra base hit, a Kris Dufner triple in the sixth inning. Dufner, a Philadelphia native who played at Father Judge High School, finished the game 2 for 4, adding an RBI single to go with his triple. For the Wildcats (12-9), Brendan Mannix belted three doubles, while Brian Trotta batted 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Blue Hen starting pitcher Scott Rambo (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) recorded his second straight victory in as many starts, and Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) came on to pitch the ninth and pick up the save, the first of the season for any Delaware pitcher. With the victory, Delaware now moves to the next round and face the winner of Tuesday's Drexel-LaSalle contest.
