William & Mary 10, Delaware 5 May 9, 2002 Tribe Put an End to Blue Hens Six-Game Win Streak Mark Michael went 4 for 4 with a triple and home run in the loss NEWARK, DE -- Tribe starting pitcher Clark Saylor held a powerful University of Delaware offense in check and the College of William & Mary racked up 18 hits opening a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series with a 10-5 victory Thursday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium William & Mary (27-22, 8-8 CAA) got on the scoreboard early in the second inning as Marshall Hubbard drove in Trey Wakefield on a double to right field, then scored two batters later on C.J. Stimson's RBI single. The Tribe tacked on six more runs to take an 8-4 lead into the ninth inning, where Trey Wakefield put the game away hitting a two-run home run to seal the team's sixth consecutive victory. Wakfield added a double to go with his sixth home run of the season, finishing the game 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored, while Tim Jones recorded three hits, including two doubles, scoring two runs and C.J. Stimson batted 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Delaware (33-18, 12-5 CAA), who came into the game averaging 11 runs and 13 hits in their last six games, could not seem to get into any rhythm offensively against Tribe starting pitcher Clark Saylor who held the Blue Hens to just four runs on seven hits, while striking out seven in 7-1/3 innings. Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shined for the Blue Hens going 4-for-4 with a solo home run, triple , single and a stolen base, and Steve Van Note (Brigantine, NJ/Atlantic City) chipped in with a double, triple, and two RBI. Blue Hens starter Jason Vincent (Seaford, DE/Seaford) was credited with the loss, his first in over a month, as Delaware saw its winning-streak snapped at six games. Both teams, who are battling for the top spot in the division, will resume this crucial series tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. at Hannah Stadium.   Coll.
