William & Mary 7, Delaware 3 May 11, 2002 Blue Hens Swept by Tribe To Close Out Conference Schedule Mark Michael finished 2-for-4 with two RBI NEWARK, DE -- The College of William and Mary broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning and held on through the final three frames to defeat the University of Delaware 7-3, completing a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series sweep Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium. Delaware (33-20, 12-7 CAA) jumped out to an early two-run lead in the first inning as Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and John Schneider (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) laced back-to-back RBI singles. After William & Mary answered with two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth innings, Michael struck once again for the Blue Hens, tying the game with a an RBI double in the bottom half of the fifth inning. The Tribe (29-22, 10-8 CAA) took final control of the lead in the seventh inning as Trey Wakefield drove in Kyle Padgett with an RBI single and Marshall Hubbard followed two batters later with a two-run home run. C.J. Stimson capped off the four-run rally with a solo home run and the Tribe pitching staff held the Blue Hens in check the rest of the way to pick up the team's eighth straight victory, and control of the Colonial Division lead. Stimson finished the game 2-for-5 adding a double to go with his seventh home run of the season, and Matt Kirby added his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Michael led the Blue Hens going 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) also added two hits a piece. On the mound, Tribe lefty Ryan Bogardus (4-2) settled down after a rocky start, to finish allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out eight over eight full innings. Rich McGuire (5-4) suffered the loss for the Blue Hens, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits. The loss closes the book on the Blue Hens regular season conference schedule, as they are idle next weekend, and must wait for the completion of next weekends' conference action to determine their seeding for the CAA Tournament which is held May 21-25 in Manteo, NC. Delaware will finish close out the regular season on May 15 when they host Villanova at Hannah Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.   Coll.
