Coastal Carolina 4, Delaware 2 February 22, 2003 Delaware's comeback comes up short, falls 4-2 at Coastal Carolina CONWAY, SC -- Mark Michael homered and drove in two runs but it was not enough as the Delaware baseball team dropped its second straight, 4-2, at Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon at Charles Watson Stadium. Delaware fell behind 1-0 in the bottom half of the first inning when Tyler Hasbrouck singled in Brett Grandstrand for the games first run. Coastal Carolina (7-1) tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the second inning on run scoring singles by Grandstrand and Hasbrouck to go ahead 3-0. Coastal would push the score to 4-0 before Michael drove a shot over the left-field fence for the Blue Hens first home run of the season, knocking in Steve Van Note who singled to lead off the top half of the seventh. Delaware (0-2) put together another rally in the eighth inning, when Brent Rogers walked, advanced to second on a ground out by Kris Dufner. Van Note followed with a walk that brought the winning run to the plate in the form of Michael but he struck out to end the inning. Michael finished the day 1-for-4 while Van Note went 2-for-3 with two singles. Justin Sturge went six innings, scattering seven hits while allowing two earned runs to pick up his first win of the season. Josh Fish worked a scoreless ninth inning to garner the save. Jason Vincent got the loss as he pitched four innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts. The final game of the three game weekend series concludes tomorrow.
