George Washington 5, Delaware 2 March 13, 2003 Conden holds Delaware to only four hits to lead George Washington over Delaware NEWARK, DE -- Greg Conden scattered four hits over 8.2 innings to lead George Washington University to a 5-2 win over the University of Delaware in NCAA Collegiate Baseball action on an overcast Thursday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Nick DeCarlo (5) knocked in two runs in the ninth inning Conden (4-1) held the Blue Hen offense to just three hits heading to the ninth inning before allowing a pair of unearned runs and giving way to closer Nick Koken with two outs in the inning. Koker would get senior Matt Wimer to line out to second and pick up his third save of the season. Delaware trailed 5-0 heading to the last inning as the Colonials scored single runs in the third, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The Hens would finally get on the board when senior Nick DeCarlo laced a single to right field scoring senior co-captains Steve Harden and Kris Dufner. Delaware managed to get the tying run to the plate but Wimer was retired for the final out. Senior Jason Rogers (0-3) pitched well for the Blue Hens, giving up seven hits, four runs while striking out eight. Freshman southpaw Joey Coudon pitched 2.0 effective innings, allowing a run on two hits with one strikeout. Travis Crowder put GW ahead 1-0 on an RBI single in the third, scoring Tom Shanley. Shanley would lead off the fifth with a solo shot deep over the left-field fence for his second home run of the season. Shanley, who entered the game with a team leading .417 batting average, has a hit in all 14 games for the Colonials this season. Shanley went 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Anthony Raglani went 2-for-4 with two doubles for George Washington (10-4). Sophomore Brock Donovan had two hits for the Blue Hens while Dufner and DeCarlo accounted for the other two Delaware hits. The Blue Hens (2-9) return to action Friday when they host Quinnipiac University for a doubleheader at Bob Hannah Stadium. First game is set for 12 noon.
