Hofstra 9, Delaware 3 May 3, 2003 Delaware falls to Hofstra in game two of weekend series HEMPSTEAD, NY -- David Huth pitched a complete game for his first collegiate victory, giving host Hofstra University a 9-3 win over the University of Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action Saturday at University Field in Hempstead, NY. Each team has won one game in the weekend series. The Hens won yesterday's game 12-6. The Blue Hens are now 16-30 on the season (5-11 in CAA action) while the Dutchmen improve to 10-31 overall and 3-13 in the conference. Huth scattered 11 hits and allowed three runs while striking out two to run his season record to 1-2. Ryan Cosentino went 4-for-4 with four runs to pace the Dutchmen offense while Thomas Brown had three hits and two runs scored. Hofstra got on the board in the second inning when Edward Cook cleared the bases on a double to center field. Cook would come around to score on a single by Steven Oliveri for a 4-0 lead. The Hens would score a run in the fourth on a RBI single by senior designated hitter Nick DeCarlo to cut the lead to 4-1. Delaware got two more runs in the sixth on RBI double's by DeCarlo and freshman left fielder Joe Coudon to cut its deficit to 5-3 but that was as close as the Hens would get as Hofstra scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to go on to the 9-3 win. DeCarlo went 2-for-4 with two RBI on the afternoon while Steve Van Note, Todd Davison and Brock Donovan each went 2-for-5. Delaware continued to struggle with men on base as it left 11 runners stranded on base. The final game of the weekend series is Sunday at 12 noon.
