Delaware 6, LaSalle 3 March 26, 2003 Davison drives in three runs, extends hit streak to 10 games PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman Todd Davison (Somers Point, NJ) continues his hot hitting as he extended his hit streak to 10 games and drove in three runs to lead the University of Delaware to a 6-3 win over LaSalle University in the opening round of the 12th annual Liberty Bell Classic Collegiate Baseball Tournament today at Veterans Stadium in South Philadelphia. Delaware has won the last two tournaments and six overall, by far the most of any school. The Explorers (4-9) got a double down the left-field line by Brian Oakes in the first inning that scored two to stake LaSalle to a 2-0 lead. The Hens answered back with a pair of sacrifice fly's and an RBI single by freshman Joe Coudon (Rising Sun, MD) in the bottom half of the inning to give Delaware a 3-2 lead. With the game tied 3-3 in the fourth inning , Davison ripped a single past LaSalle third baseman George Hudock, scoring sophomore Dave Harden (Wilmington, DE) and senior Nick DeCarlo (Glen Mills, PA) for a 5-3 lead. Davison gave the Hens an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to left, scoring freshman Brian Valichka (Frederick, MD). Junior Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ) pitched 5.1 effective innings, scattering nine hits and giving up three runs to improve his record to 2-1 on the season. Senior Ryan Dulaney (Annapolis, MD) and sophomore Chris Garrick (Nesconset (NY) pitched one hit ball over 3.2 innings of relief work with Garrick picking up his first save of the season. Coudon went 2-for-4 with an RBI today while Davison has hit .417 (15-for-36) over his 10 game hitting streak. The Blue Hens (8-13) open conference play with a three-game weekend series with James Madison University.
