Delaware 9, Maryland 5 April 29, 2003 Freshman Valichka and Davison lead Delaware over Maryland NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over the visiting University of Maryland in a non-league game today at Bob Hannah Stadium. The Blue Hens are now 15-28 on the season while the Terrapins fall to 16-27. Freshman catcher Brian Valichka paced the Hens offense with two doubles including one that cleared the bases knocking in three runs as Delaware led 4-0 after two innings. Freshman shortstop Todd Davison went 4-for-5 with two runs scored while junior center fielder Steve Van Note had a double and three RBI. Senior righthander Ryan Dulaney went 6.0 innings scattering nine hits, allowed five runs while strikeing out five to garner the win and move to 2-1 on the year. Sophomore righty Scott Rambo pitched three scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the year. Maryland got two runs in the third and fifth innings to tie the game 4-4 and would take the lead 5-4 when Anthony Buffone singled in Joe Sargent for a 5-4 Terps' lead in the sixth but the Hens answered in the bottom of the sixth as sophomore second baseman Brock Donovan and Van Note would each drive a run in to give the Blue Hens a 6-5 advantage. Donovan finished the day 2-for-5 with two RBI. Van Note gave Rambo some room to work when he blasted a two RBI double to right in the eighth while the next batter, senior first baseman Steve Harden followed with a RBI single for a 9-5 lead. The Terrapins would load the bases in the ninth inning but Rambo got Sargent to strikeout to end the ball game.
