Delaware 6, Penn State 1 Penn State 12, Delaware 6 March 22, 2003 Rogers posts first win in 2003 with complete game victory in game one Todd Davison (7) went 3-for-7 on the day for the Blue Hens NEWARK, DE -- Senior Jason Rogers (New Castle, DE) pitched a complete game victory for the University of Delaware baseball team in the first game of a non-league double header with Penn State University today at Bob Hannah Stadium. The Nittany Lions pounded out 12 runs on 14 hits to salvage a 12-6 win in the second game. Rogers (1-3) went 7.0 innings, allowing only four hits and struck out five Penn State batters for his first win of the season. Freshman Todd Davison (Somers Point, NJ) highlighted a three-run second inning with a double to left center scoring senior Doug Eitelman (Wilmington, DE). Junior Steve Van Note (Brigantine, NJ) put an exclamation point on the victory with a towering two-run shot to dead-center field that traveled well over 400-feet. Davison and Van Note had two hits apiece for Delaware. In the nightcap, Penn State broke open a 2-2 ball game with three runs in the seventh and seven more runs in the eighth to go ahead 12-2. Zach Smithlin plated two runs in the seventh inning while Clint Eury singled in a run to account for the three runs in the seventh for Penn State (4-7). Derrick Barr and Wes Reohr each had two RBI in the seven run eighth inning for the Nittany Lions. Lance Thompson gave Penn State the lead in the fourth on a two-run homer that cleared the scoreboard in right. Sophomore Brock Donovan (New Castle, DE) led the Blue Hen offense in the nightcap, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Senior Kris Dufner (Philadelphia, PA) had a two RBI triple in a four run eighth inning while junior Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ) had two hits and an RBI. The Blue Hens (6-12) will host Penn State in the final game of a three-game weekend series tomorrow at Bob Hannah Stadium.
