Delaware 7, Rider 4 May 14, 2003 Third-year head coach Jim Sherman wins 100th game at Delaware Senior Doug Eitelman had two hits in his final game at Bob Hannah Stadium NEWARK, DE - Freshman catcher Brian Valichka doubled in the game-winning run which was part of a five-run eighth innings as the University of Delaware came from behind for a 7-4 win over visiting Rider in a non-conference baseball game today at Bob Hannah Stadium. The win gave Blue Hen third-year coach Jim Sherman is 100th victory at Delaware. Senior Steve Harden picked up the win as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief striking out five of the seven batters he faced. Delaware's win was its 20th on the season which is the 31st straight season the baseball program has won at least as many games. Trailing 4-2 heading to the bottom half of the eighth, the Hens scored five unearned runs thanks to three Broncs' errors in the inning. Junior rightfielder Steve Van Note drove in the innings first run with a triple to right centerfield. Freshman leftfielder Joe Coudon reached on an error by the Rider first baseman as Van Note scored from third to tie the game 4-4. After a strikeout, Valichka laced a double just over the third baseman's head scoring Coudon for the game-winner. Freshman Todd Davison followed with a single through the left-side of the infield scoring two, giving Delaware a 7-4 lead. Senior righty Jason Vincent made his final start at Delaware and he went 5.0 innings scattering 10 hits and allowed three runs (two earned). He finishes third all-time in school history with 309.2 innings pitched, tied for seventh with 24 wins and eighth in strikeouts with 193. Senior Doug Eitelman had two hits including his ninth double of the season while Davison was 1-for-5 with three RBI. Carl Loadenthal led Rider (21-24) with three hits and his 27th stolen base of the season. Erinn Pesaresi and Eric D'Alessandro each had two hits for the Broncs.
