Delaware 6, Saint Joseph's 4 April 16, 2003 Harden's Grand Slam Propels Delaware to Victory NEWARK, DE -- Senior Steve Harden belted a grand slam in the fifth inning and finished with five runs batten in and freshman Joe Coudon struck out nine in eight innings of work in his first career start as the University of Delaware baseball team knocked off Saint Joseph's, 6-4, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Senior Kris Dufner added two hits for the Blue Hens (12-21), who avenged a 7-1 loss earlier this season to the Hawks at the Liberty Bell Classic at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, PA. Delaware opened the scoring in the bottom of the third as Dufner smacked a two-out double to left center and was brought home on Harden's single. The Blue Hens increased their lead to 5-0 on Harden' grand slam in the fifth before Saint Joseph's (9-19) cut the deficit to three in the seventh on a Jake Iampietro two-out double to right field, scoring John Kokol and Jason Tareiwcz. The Hawks struck for two more runs in the ninth off Coudon, as Nick Baldesari drilled a two-run home run over the left field fence, chasing Coudon after eight innings. Sophomore Scott Rambo came in and closed out the ninth. Coudon allowed seven hits and four earned runs in his eight innings of work, walking just one, to notch his first career victory. Jason Volker took the loss for the Hawks, going six innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits while striking out two. The Blue Hens return to action tomorrow as they take on the Hornets of Delaware State at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, DE.
