Temple 8, Delaware 7 April 23, 2003 Van Note smacks two homers and drives in five RBI in 8-7 setback for the Blue Hens NEWARK, DE -- Temple University used two homers by center fielder John Quigley to upend the University of Delaware baseball team, 8-7, today at Bob Hannah Stadium. Delaware got two homers and five RBI by junior center fielder Steve Van Note but it was not enough as the Hens dropped their second game in as many days and fell to 14-25 on the year while the Owls improved to 14-18 this season. Van Note staked the Blue Hens to a 2-0 lead when he crushed a homer to left-center in the second and he extended the lead to 3-0 an inning later when Van Note drove in senior first baseman Steve Harden with a single. Quigley smacked a two-run homer as part of a five-run fifth inning to give the Owls a 7-3 lead but Van Note once again answered back with a two-run homer to right-center to cut the deficit to 7-5. Quigley proceeded to hit a solo shot in the seventh that provided the difference in the game as the Hens scored twice in the bottom half of the inning but were unable to get any closer than the 8-7 final score. Van Note finished the day 4-for-5 with three runs scored, five RBI and his fifth and sixth homer. Senior designated hitter Nick DeCarlo went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Quigley was 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI including his ninth and 10th homers while Rob Cucinotta had three hits.
