Jason Rogers snaps
Hens five game losing streak with eight shutout
innings in a game one victory
TOWSON, MD -- Sophomore
righthander Jason Rogers (New Castle, DE/William
Penn) pitched eight shutout innings in a 7-0 win for the
University of Delaware baseball team in the first game of a
Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader with Towson
University today at Schuerholz Park. The Tigers came back
and won the nightcap 7-3.
Rogers scattered six hits and struck out
three over 8.0 innings while sophomore righty Scott
Rambo pitched a scoreless ninth striking out one
batter.
Junior designated hitter Mark
Michael put the Hens up 1-0 in the second on an RBI
double. Michael pushed the lead to 2-0 in the fourth with a
sacrifice fly while sophomore second baseman Brock
Donovan singled in freshman catcher Brian Valichka
in the fifth for a 3-0 Delaware lead.
Freshman left fielder Daryl
Holcomb ripped a two RBI double in the eight inning to
give the Hens a 7-0 advantage.
Senior first baseman Steve Harden
went 3-for-5 with a double while Michael drove in three
runs.
In the nightcap, senior third baseman
Kris Dufner put the Blue Hens up 1-0 an a sacrifice
fly in the first but Towson responded with three runs of its
own in the bottom of the inning, keyed by a two-run homer by
Casper Wells, his first as a collegiate.
Freshman second baseman Brent
Rogers tripled in a run for Delaware in the third to cut
the Towson lead to 4-2 and Harden homered to left, his
team-leading sixth of the season, in the fourth to stay
within two runs, 5-3, but the Tigers would add two more runs
in the fifth inning for a comfortable 7-3 lead.
Rogers had two of the Hens four hits in
the nightcap while senior catcher Matt Wimer had a single
and a run scored.
The Blue Hens (10-20, 2-5 CAA) take on
Towson (15-14, 4-3 CAA) in the final game of the weekend
series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
