Wm. & Mary 7, Delaware 2 May 8, 2003   WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Using a six-run third inning, William & Mary ended Delaware's slim chances of making the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Tournament with a 7-2 win Thursday night at Plumeri Park. The loss eliminated Delaware (18-31, 6-12) from the conference postseason for the first time since 1972, snapping a string of 31 straight conference tournament appearances. The Tribe (28-16, 11-3) scored six runs on four hits in the third. The big hits in the inning came on a two-run double by Kyle Padgett, followed one batter later by C.J. Simson's sixth home run of the season to extend the Tribe's lead to 6-1. Both of Delaware's runs came via the long ball. Kris Dufner homered in the first inning, his sixth of the season, to give Delaware an early 1-0 lead. Steve Harden smacked his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot in the seventh. Forrest Cory picked up the win for the Tribe to raise his record to 7-1 on the season. He struck out four and did not walk a batter in six innings of work.
