Delaware 9, Delaware State 4 March 6, 2004 Harden, Rambo Lead Hens Past Hornets Box score NEWARK, DE - Junior Dave Harden belted his seventh home run of the season and junior Scott Rambo allowed one earned run over six innings of work as the University of Delaware baseball team won its fifth-straight game, downing Delaware State 9-4 Saturday afternoon at a soggy Bob Hannah Stadium. Junior Kelly Buber and sophomore Brent Rogers (#2 at righ) each went 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Blue Hens, who have now won seven-straight home games, dating back to last season. "Harden has been on fire for us and is not even close to being put out," said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman. "Dave and Steve (Van Note) give a whole different dimension to our offense that we didn't have last year. Rambo settled down and threw well for us today and Coudon provided us with great relief pitching." Delaware State (8-6) jumped on the board first, scoring twice in the first on a Matt Folke sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Justin Wenger. Delaware answered back with a single run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI groundout by senior Steve Van Note to cut the DSU lead to 2-1 The Hornets tacked on another run in the top of the third on an RBI groundout by Bret Underwood before the Blue Hens rallied back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Buber singled home freshman Brian Hagerich, who led off the inning with a double, followed by a two-run home run from Rogers to put Delaware up 4-3. The Hens then padded their lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Following a single by Van Note, Harden hit his fourth home run in three games gave Delaware a 6-4 lead. Hagerich followed with a double to right field and then a walk to sophomore Brock Donovan brought Buber to the plate, where he laced a single to right to score both runners and give the Hens a comfortable 8-3 lead. Wenger went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Hornets while Garrett Weir, Bret Underwood and Matt Folke each had an RBI. Rambo struck out four and walked none for Delaware as he earned his second consecutive win. Sophomore Joe Coudon tossed three innings of scoreless relief for Delaware, allowing just one hit while striking out one. Derek Batton took the loss for Delaware State, allowing nine hits and eight earned runs in 5.1 innings of work, walking one and striking out four. The Blue Hens and Hornets conclude the three-game series tomorrow at Bob Hannah Stadium.
