Send Hens to Fifth-Straight Defeat FAIRFAX, VA -- Bobby Jacobsen went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI as George Mason University completed a three-game sweep of the University of Delaware baseball team with a 9-2 win Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association action at Spuhler Field in Virginia. The loss ran the Blue Hens (28-21, 10-10 CAA) losing streak to five games while George Mason (34-13, 18-3 CAA) won its fifth CAA game in a row. The Patriots jumped on the board in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Jacobsen to give GMU a 1-0 lead. The Hens evened the score at one on an RBI single by freshman Bryan Hagerich that scored sophomore Brian Valichka in the top of the fourth. George Mason took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five times to open a 6-1 lead. Jeff Palumbo opened the scoring with a triple to right field to score Jacobsen and Kyle Barrett before Matt Cooksey plated Palumbo with a sac fly. Nick Shimer followed with a double to center to score Chris Looze and Adam Innerst later singled to score Shimer to cap the scoring. The Patriots tacked on one in the sixth on Jacobsen's first home run of the afternoon, increasing their lead to 7-1. The Hens cut the lead to 7-2 when sophomore Todd Davison led off the top of the eighth inning with his sixth home run of the season over the left field fence. George Mason rallied back for two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run home run by Jacobsen to make it 9-2 Patriots. Brent Hitz pitched a complete-game for the Patriots to improve to 4-0 on the season, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Senior Jarame Beaupre suffered the loss for Delaware to fall to 5-2, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs in seven innings of work, striking out five.
