Beaupre Pitches No-Hitter in Win Over Hartford; Hens Run Win Streak to 12 With Win Over UMBC

BALTIMORE, MD -- Senior Jarame Beaupre (at right) pitched just the sixth no-hitter in University of Delaware baseball history in a 13-0 win over Hartford in the morning game and the Hens downed host UMBC 6-1 in the afternoon for a non-league baseball sweep Wednesday at UMBC's Factory Field.

The Blue Hens, who ran their win streak to 12 games, improved to 12-4 on the season heading into Thursday's non-league game vs. the University of Buffalo at Bob Hannah Stadium at 2:30 p.m. The Hens have also won 11 straight games at home.

It was a historic day for Delaware as Beaupre (2-0), a first-year transfer from Drexel University, struck out seven batters and allowed just two Hartford batters to reach base. The no-hitter was the sixth in Delaware's 117-year history and was the first since Matt Phillips blanked Hofstra back on March 28, 1997. Beaupre (pronounced Jeremy Bo-Pray) was coming off an 11-strikeout performance in his last outing, a 6-1 win at Rider March 11.

Beaupre, a senior from Colorado Springs, CO, faced just 28 batters on the day and retired the first 11 batters he faced before walking Ron Acabbo with two outs in the fourth inning. Hen then retired the next five batters before hitting Kyle O'Neill with a pitch with one out in the sixth inning. He struck out O'Neill and Ryan Crowley to end the game.

Delaware, which has now recorded 10 or more hits in 10 of their last 12 games, banged out 13 hits vs. Hartford (2-5) and took advantage of six Hawk errors. Five different Delaware players had two or more hits led by red-hot outfielders Dave Harden and Brent Rogers who each hit three-run home runs in the seven-run third inning when UD sent 10 batters to the plate.

Rogers was 3 for 5 with four runs batted in vs. Hartford while Harden went 2 for 4 with three RBI. The Hens collected seven extra base hits for the game, including five doubles.

The Hens continued their winning ways in the nightcap as Harden hit his Colonial Athletic Association-leading 11th home run of the season with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Centerfielder Steve Van Note extended his hitting streak to 12 games with two hits vs. Hartford and two doubles vs. UMBC. Brock Donovan also knocked in two runs to key the win over UMBC. The Retrievers (2-14) committed four errors and lost their sixth straight game of the season and their 11th straight overall vs. Delaware.

Mitch Heckert started and picked up the win for the Hens, allowing all six UMBC hits and striking out six to improve to 3-0 for the season. Blue Hen relievers Scott Rambo, Chad Kerfoot, and Joe Coudon each set UMBC down in order for an inning.
