Delaware 12, Hofstra 3 May 7, 2004 Blue Hens Score Six In Ninth To Blow Out Pride Box Score HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Freshman Dan Kozek belted a three-run home run and senior Steve Van Note and freshman Bryan Hagerich (right) each had two RBI as the University of Delaware baseball team ran its winning streak to seven games with a 12-3 win over Hofstra University in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action Friday afternoon at University Park. The Pride (12-31, 3-16 CAA) have now dropped 10 in a row and 14 of 15 overall. Their last conference win came back on April 10 when they defeated William & Mary 5-4. The Hens (26-16, 8-7 CAA), meanwhile, won their fourth-straight CAA game. Hofstra took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a home run by Ricky Caputo that broke the Pride single-season hit record of 66. Delaware answered back in the top of the second as Hagerich launched his fifth home run of the season to score junior Ed McDonnell and tie the game at two. Delaware took a 4-2 led in the top of the fifth behind an RBI triple by junior Brock Donovan and an RBI single by Todd Davison. They tacked on another run in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by McDonnell and one in the seventh on a sac fly by van Note to up the lead to 6-2. Hofstra cut the deficit to 6-3 on a an RBI single by Mackie Root before the Hens struck for six runs in the top of the ninth to take a commanding 12-3 lead. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Kozek and RBI hits from Van Note and junior Dave Harden. Junior Kelly Buber also had an RBI on a fielders choice but finished the afternoon 0-5 to snap his 22-game hitting streak. Junior Scott Rambo pitched eight innings of seven hit ball to earn his fifth win of the season. He allowed three earned runs and struck out nine before freshman Billy Harris relieved him and tossed a scoreless ninth. Charlie Frago suffered the loss for Hofstra, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned) in seven innings of work, striking out one.
