Three in Ninth To Topple Terrapins BOWIE, MD -- Sophomore Todd Davison had two RBI, including the game-winning sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning, as the University of Delaware baseball team rallied for three runs in the ninth to defeat the University of Maryland, 7-6, Wednesday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD. The Blue Hens (25-16) extended their winning streak to five games and have now won 11 of their last 13 games overall. The Terrapins, meanwhile, dropped their third-straight game and sixth in their last eight to fall to 19-27 on the season. Delaware entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 5-4 but scored three times to take a 7-5 lead. Junior Brock Donovan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score sophomore Brian Valichka, who led off the inning with a single, and tie the game at five. Freshman Dan Kozek then scored on a wild pitch to give the Hens a 6-5 lead before Davison's sacrifice fly scored junior Ed McDonnell to up it to 7-5. The run proved to be key as Maryland's Will Frazier led off the bottom of the ninth with his second home run of the game to bring the Terps within one before sophomore closer Joe Coudon shut the door to pick up his third win of the season. Maryland scored three times in the bottom of the first behind an RBI double by Anthony Buffone and a two-run home run by Frazier to take a 3-0 lead. The Hens scratched across a run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Valichka and two in the top of the third behind an RBI groundouts by Davison and senior Steve Van Note to tie the game at three. The Terps regained the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple by Kevin Hart. Delaware fought back to tie the game in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Kelly Buber that extended his hitting streak to 22 games, tying him for the third-longest streak in Delaware baseball history. Maryland regained the lead at 5-4 on when Frazier scored on a wild pitch from freshman Billy Harris. Freshman Chad Kerfoot allowed nine hits and four earned runs in six innings of work for Delaware before Harris relieved him in the seventh. Chris Bowen suffered the loss for Maryland, allowing one run while striking out one in one inning of work. The Blue Hens return to action this Friday when they travel to Hempstead, NY to open a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series with Hofstra University.
