Delaware 6, Rider 1 March 11, 2004 Beaupre Notches 11 Strikeouts in Blue Hen Win Box score LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Senior Jarame Beaupre struck out 11 in seven innings of work in his first start of the season as the University of Delaware baseball team downed Rider University, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at Richard F. Daly Stadium. Sophomores Brian Valichka and Todd Davison and freshman Brian Hagerich each had an RBI for the Blue Hens (7-4), who won their seventh-straight game while Rider fell to 1-7 on the season. Beaupre, making his first career start for Delaware after transferring from Drexel University during the off-season, allowed five hits and one unearned run in seven innings of work before freshman Billy Harris pitched two scoreless innings to close the game. Mike Dyszel suffered the loss for Rider, working six innings of five hit ball, allowing two earned runs while striking out four before being relieved by Mike Rakoczy. Delaware took a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI single from Hagerich that scored junior Dave Harden and one from Valichka which scored Hagerich. The Hens upped their lead to 4-0 in the fifth when junior Ryan Graham and Valichka scored on an error by Rider shortstop Bryan Wagner. The Blue Hens tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings as Davison singled home sophomore Brent Rogers in the seventh and Hagerich scored on a passed ball in the eighth. Rider's lone run came in the seventh. Rider first baseman Gene Crimoli singled home Jordan Marchini, who entered the game as a pinch runner after catcher Sean Whalen doubled and moved to third on an error by Davison. The Blue Hens return to action tomorrow when they begin a three-game series with Marist at Bob Hannah Stadium.
