Delaware 26, Saint Joseph's 4 February 29, 2004 Harden, Van Not Help Blue Hens Sweep Homestand from Hawks Box score NEWARK, DE - Junior Dave Harden went 5 for 6 with two home runs and seven RBI as the University of Delaware baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Saint Joseph's with a 26-4 win Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Junior Kelly Buber went 3 for 4 with four RBI and both senior Steve Van Note and freshman Dan Kozek (right) posted three RBI as the Hens scored 20 runs for the first time since May 13, 2000 when they defeated Towson, 21-14. Van Note finished the homestand with two home runs and nine RBI while Harden registered three home runs and 10 RBI. With the win, Delaware has now won five-straight home games, dating back to last season. The 45 runs the Blue Hens scored in consecutive games this weekend is the most they have posted in back-to-back contests since 1997, when they beat Temple 24-8 on April 15, 1997 and Rider 29-5 on April 16, 1997. Delaware (3-4) took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by Kozek, an RBI single by sophomore Todd Davison and a two-run single by Harden. Kozek registered his first career hit - a three-run home run - Saturday afternoon, and his home run Sunday gave him two home runs as his first two hits in his Delaware career. The Blue Hens extended their lead to 13-0 with eight runs in the bottom of the third. Harden and sophomore Brock Donovan hit back-to-back home runs for the Hens while Kozek and sophomore Brent Rogers posted RBI singles and Van Note added a two-run single of his own. Juniors Ryan Graham and Ed McDonnell and freshman Brian Hagerich also registered an RBI for the Hens. Mike Gentile went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Saint Josephs while Michael Davis, Matt Godusky and Jake Iampietro also had an RBI for the Hawks. Junior Chris Garrick picked up the win for Delaware as he went five innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out a career-high 10 batters. Jason Volker took the loss for the Hawks (1-8), allowing 11 earned runs in 2.1 innings of work, walking two and striking out one. The Blue Hens return to action on Friday, March 5 when they open a three-game homestand against Delaware State. Friday's game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
