Three in 10th for Sixth Victory in Last Seven
Games TOWSON, MD -- Junior third baseman Ryan Graham singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning and senior Steve Van Note followed with a two-run home run to give the University of Delaware baseball team an 8-5 win over Towson University in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action at Schuerholz Park. The game, originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, was suspended with Delaware leading 5-4 in the top of the eighth because of repeated flashes of lighting. The two teams resumed play this afternoon before game two of the three-game series. Sophomore Todd Davison had just belted a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give the University of Delaware (19-15, 3-6 CAA) a 5-4 lead over Towson University before the game was suspended on Friday. The Tigers (13-23, 4-9 CAA) tied the game in the bottom half of the tinning Jeremy Stifler singled home Adam Heffrom from second. The Tigers opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth as Brian McKenna doubled down the left filed line to score Bobby Paduano. Heffron followed with a double to right field to score McKenna and up the Tiger lead to 2-0. The Blue Hens struck back in the top of the fifth, scoring twice to tie the game at two. Davison singled and scored on an RBI double down the left field line by sophomore Brent Rogers. Van Note followed with an RBI single that scored Rogers. Towson took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer run by Adam Heffron over the right center field fence that scored Casper Wells. The game was then delayed 30 minutes with one out in the top of the seventh because of rain. When play resumed, the Hens put runners on first and second with one out but Van Note flied to left and senior Dave Harden struck out swinging. Senior Mike Mihalik picked up the win for the Blue Hens, allowing one run in three innings of work, striking out two to improve to 3-3 on the season. Junior Scott Rambo started the game on Friday and worked seven inning for Delaware, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out eight. Meanwhile, Joe Peeler allowed seven hits and two earned runs in six innings pitched for the Tigers before being relieved by Dennis Lane to start the seventh.
