April 25, 2004 Blue Hens Win 20
games for 32nd Straight Season TOWSON, MD --Junior Kelly Buber went 2 for 4 with three RBI to extend his hitting streak to 17 games and sophomore Brian Valichka also had three RBI as the Blue Hens blew a 7-0 lead but rallied back to down Towson University, 11-8, Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action at Schuerholz Park in Towson. The win extends the Blue Hens (20-16, 4-7 CA A) streak of 20-win seasons to 32 years while the Tigers lost for the fifth time in their last seven games. Delaware jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI groundout by senior Steve Van Note and an RBI double by Buber. The Hens tacked on five more runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 7-0. Buber singled to center to score Van Note and junior Ryan Graham before the first of two triples by Valichka plated Buber and junior Dave Harden. Junior Ed McDonnell followed with a triple of his own to score Valichka to cap the scoring in the inning. Towson got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple by Adam Heffron and then scored four in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead. A pair of two-run home runs by Brian McKenna and Casper Wells cut the deficit to 7-5 in the fifth and McKenna and Heffron each added an RBI in the sixth to put the Tigers in front for the first time in the game. The Hens tied the game in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by sophomore Todd Davison that scored Valichka and scored three times in the top of the eighth to take an 11-8 lead. Valichka doubled in Harden to put the Hens in front 9-7 before junior Brock Donovan singled to center to score Valichka and Buber. Sophomore Joe Coudon sent the Tigers down 1-2-3 in both the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings to earn his second win of the season. Matt Holley suffered the loss for the Tigers, allowing four hits and three earned runs in two innings of work. Senior Jarame Beaupre started for the Hens and was chased after 5.2 innings of work after allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs. The Blue Hens return to action this Tuesday when they host Wilmington College at Bob Hannah Stadium at 3 p.m. AGATE: Delaware vs Towson (Apr 25, 2004)
